MASTER JULIUS BAÑARES (Marathon Man)

Mentored by a Korean Taekwondo Master, Julius migrated from the Philippines to Canada in 1975. He is happily married to Teresa and is the proud father of four wonderful children: Julian, Amanda, Yasmin, and Brooke. Throughout his life, Julius has embraced various disciplines, including Karate, Judo, Sikaran, and Taekwondo, and he remains active, maintaining a healthy and spiritually mindful lifestyle. Master Bañares has achieved numerous accomplishments and competed in national and provincial championships across a range of sports, such as volleyball, basketball, football, and track and field. He has completed 20 full marathons in Manitoba, earning him the title of “Marathon Man” after accomplishing the challenging feat of ten marathons. He has broken records in athletics and other sports, and he has dedicated himself to coaching and mentoring in various sports organizations. Taekwondo has been his passion and way of life for over 20 years, and he is committed to providing his students with the proper instruction they need to achieve their highest potential. While grounded in the ancient art of Taekwondo, Julius has integrated modern techniques to enhance effectiveness in training, drawing wisdom from his life experiences to shape his philosophy. Elite TKD Martial Arts was founded in 2006 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, initially in the East Elmwood area. Over the years, the club expanded to the West End, where we found a welcoming home at the Isaac Brock Community Center. My love for Taekwondo and passion for teaching have fostered a caring, family-oriented atmosphere within our organization. What truly sets us apart from our competitors is the love and support given by our members; everyone treats one another with respect and honesty. Two quotes that provide meaning in my life are Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me," and 2 Corinthians 5:7: "Walk by faith, not by sight."
